University of Technology Research Fellow,Cyprus

Applications are invited from candidates who possess the necessary qualifications in order to fill two (2) part-time Research Fellow positions at the Department of Hotel and Tourism Management for a research program related to one of the following fields: “Sociology / Anthropology / Social Psychology / Social Geography / Behaviour Sciences (priority will be given on candidates with focus on tourism and leisure)».
Applicants should have:

- University Degree and a Masters degree (or equivalent) from a recognized university in one or a combination of the following fields of study: Sociology / Anthropology / Social Psychology / Social Geography / Behavioural Sciences
- Very Good knowledge of the English language (spoken and written)
- Experience in carrying out surveys on the advertised subjects.

The following will be considered as an advantage:

- Experience in preparing, submitting, and managing research projects.
- Possession of a Ph.D. title.
- Knowledge of Statistical Package for quantitative and qualitative data analysis (SPSS & NVIVO) would be an advantage.
- Τhe appointment will be for a period of six (6) months, with a possibility for renewal for ten (10) months. The monthly gross salary for the position will be €1162,24. There is no provision for 13th salary.

Canadian Commonwealth PostDoctoral Research Fellowships for Citizens of the UK Students

Canadian Commonwealth PostDoctoral Research Fellowships 20112012 for Citizens of the United Kingdom.As part of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP), the Government of Canada has invited the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK to nominate 15 candidates for oneyear postdoctoral research fellowships tenable at recognised public Canadian universities in 2011.

Eligibility

- Applicants must be citizens of the United Kingdom. Anyone who has obtained Canadian citizenship or who has applied for permanent residency in Canada is not eligible for an award.
- Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. degree within the last 3 years or have completed the Ph.D. degree requirements before the beginning of the award (evidence of submission of dissertation for defence provided by the responsible department head)
- Fellowships are offered within the humanities, social sciences, natural resources and engineering but are not offered to professional artists or to those wishing to do clinical research and training involving patientcare.
- Applicants must be accepted into a postdoctoral position at a recognised public
Canadian university or affiliated research institute of their choice.
- Priority will be given to candidates who have not previously studied in Canada under a Canadian government scholarship.

UK: Research Fellowship in P2P Video Streaming At De Montfort University Leicester

Applications are invited for a research post in the Faculty of Technology as part of the European Union funded Community Network Game (CNG) project (http://www.cng-project.eu/).

Salary: £30,747 - £33,600 per annum

The CNG project aims at enhancing collaborative activities between users of Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs). One of the main objectives of the project is to develop a peer-to-peer (P2P) streaming system to enable MMOG users to broadcast live video of their game. The researcher will play a leading role in the design, implementation, and testing of this P2P video streaming system.

The post is available until 31 July 2012. Applicants should have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related subject. The successful applicant will have experience in P2P video streaming and excellent programming skills in C/C++.

India:The J.N.Tata Endowment Scholarships 2010/2011

Overview

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the J. N. TATA ENDOWMENT LOAN SCHOLARSHIPS for the academic year 2010-2011 for higher studies abroad in all disciplines and subjects. Selected scholars may also qualify for gift awards.

Eligibility

I) Indian nationals; and

II) (a) graduates of a recognised Indian university with a consistently good academic record; or

(b) students in the final year of the degree course; or
(c) mid-career professionals upto the age of 45 years, planning to go abroad for further research, specialisation ortraining

At the time of submitting the completed applications, candidates need not have the admission / award letters from the universities to which they have applied for the academic year 2010-2011.


Application Procedure

Prescribed application forms will be available from the Administrative Office of the Endowment at Mulla House, 51 M.G. Road, Fort, Mumbai 400 001 from December 7, 2009 to February 15,2010. The application fee of Rs.100/- can be paid in cash or by a Money Order on which the full name and address is to be mentioned to enable the Endowment to send the form. Completed application forms should reach the office of the Endowment not later than March 1,2010.

Selection Procedure

After the initial screening of applications, candidates will be shortlisted for an interview in person by subject experts. The final selection will be made on the basis of the interview which will be held in Mumbai between March and June 2010.

John Henry Garner Scholarship 2010/2011

Brief Description

This scholarhip is awarded by University Of Leeds. The John Henry Garner Scholarship was established in 1974. The fund was bequeathed by John Henry Garner, a graduate of the University of Leeds. It was his wish that the fund be used to finance postgraduate research on matters relating to chemical and biological surveys of rivers and streams, pollution prevention and the purification of sewage and trade effluents in the geographical area known as the West Riding of Yorkshire,prior to the boundary changes, which became effective on 1 April 1974.


Eligibility

1. MUST first submit a research degree study application form and be in receipt of a University

Global Citizenship Fellowship For African Students

Brief Description

Dr. Arthur Clark, Professor in the department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary has been the primary supporter and funder of the Consortium for Peace Studies since its inception.As Director of the Irma Parhad Programmes, established in memory of his late wife to recognize humanity’s creative potential around the world, Dr. Clark has been instrumental in bringing issues of human health and well-being, international law, human rights and social justice to the University and the larger community.



Eligibility


# Ordinarily, the Fellowship is open to full-time practitioners or scholars.
# Under exceptional circumstances, we are happy to consider applications from those who have a strong voluntary track record with organizations working in the areas mentioned above, or those who have considerable related experience and are now retired.

Awards

# Valued at CAD $6,000 (including travel), the Fellowship is intended to support a period of residence from two to eight months.
# One award is available per fiscal year (April 1 – March 31).
# A second, consecutive Fellowship will not be awarded to the same individual.
# Exclusive of the salary paid to the Fellows by their home institution (when applicable), Fellows may not undertake any paid employment during the term of the award.
# However, individuals may hold other awards, including a sabbatical leave, provided the terms of reference do not require the recipient to perform duties that are normally remunerated.
# Conference travel and participation in normal
or field school programs are not eligible.

# a description of the affiliation or collaborative arrangements that have been made (if applicable)an indication of the significance of the plans to the candidate's personal development and home institute/organization, and how this furthers one or more of the program objectivesan identification of the contributions that the applicant will make to the Consortium for Peace Studies.
# The form and order of presentation of the material may vary according to the nature of the project and in the interests of clarity.

Two letters of Support from well-established / recognized individuals (scholars, practitioners, or both) who can attest to the excellence of the applicant’s previous track record and the strength of their proposed program statement. Scholarship Benefits

The maximum amount for a fellowship is US$10,000. ITTO Fellowships provides tuition/training/conference fees, transportation fees, daily subsistence allowance, book allowance and other allowances. For post-gradate studies, only a partial tuition fee or a small research grant can be provided. Approved Fellowships are non-transferable to other programmes or institutions.



Eligibility

1. Only nationals of ITTO Member countries are eligible to apply.
2. Awards are to be made to individuals not to institutions.
3. Previous ITTO Fellowship awardees are not eligible to apply for another ITTO Fellowship within two years of receiving the first award and submitting to the Secretariat a final report on the activity for which the award was made.

Priority areas

Based on the goals and cross-cutting strategies identified in the ITTO Action Plan 2008-2011, eligible activities will aim at developing human resources and professional expertise in one or more of the following areas (in no priority order):

1. Increasing production and further processing of tropical timber and other forest products from sustainably managed and legally harvested sources;
2. Increasing efficiency in harvesting, processing and utilization of tropical timber from sustainably managed and legally harvested sources;
3. Improving data and knowledge, projections and competitiveness on trade in timber and timber products in international markets;
4. Increasing supplies of tropical timber from sustainably managed and legally harvested sources;
5. Better securing tropical forest resources;
6. Sustainably managing tropical forest resource;
7. In any of the above areas (a-f), the following are relevant:
(i) Enhancing public relations, awareness and education;
(ii) Sharing information, knowledge and technology; and
(iii) Research and development.
8. a. Increasing production and further processing of tropical timber and other forest products from sustainably managed and legally harvested sources;
b. Increasing efficiency in harvesting, processing and utilization of tropical timber from sustainably managed and legally harvested sources;
c. Improving data and knowledge, projections and competitiveness on trade in timber and timber products in international markets;
d. Increasing supplies of tropical timber from sustainably managed and legally harvested sources;
e. Better securing tropical forest resources;
f. Sustainably managing tropical forest resource;
g. In any of the above areas (1-6), the following are relevant:
(i) Research and development, and technology transfer;
(ii) Communication and outreach;
(iii) Strengthening databases and information system;
(iv) Capacity building; and
(v) International cooperation.

Selection criteria

Fellowship applications will be assessed against the following selection criteria (in no priority order):

1. Consistency of the proposed activity with the Programme's objective and priority areas;
2. Qualifications of the applicant to undertake the proposed Fellowship activity;
3. The potential of the skills and knowledge acquired or advanced under the Fellowship activity to lead to wider applications and benefits nationally and internationally;
4. Reasonableness of costs in relation to the proposed Fellowship activity.

Additional consideration will be given to:

1. Geographic and gender balance;
2. Balance among the ITTO priority areas;
3. Competency in the language in which the training will be given, where applicable (eg courses, conferences, study tours).

The ITTO Fellowships are awarded mainly to nationals of developing countries. However, ITTO may award Fellowships to nationals of consumer developed countries when: (a) the activities for which the awards are made are carried out in Producer Member countries and the activities tend to benefit Producer Member countries; and/or (b) there is evidence of technology transfer for activities to be carried out in developed countries.

Deadline for receipt of the completed applications is:
19 February 2010 for fellowship activities that will start after 1 Julyy 2010.
